My Knee

Postby Garmachi » Wed Mar 26, 2014 12:45 pm

Not everyone knew because I didn't want to make a big deal out of it, but I had minor knee surgery this morning. I'm fine.

It was in no way related to the Iceland trip (although that didn't help) - I've been planning to have it done since November/December of last year when I had to drop out of the Tybee Half Marathon training due to pain and swelling.

Nurse Katie is doing an excellent job of taking care of me!

Ice on and off every 30 minutes! Are you remembering?
I turn into Nurse Ratched at midnight. Then you're on your own!

No, but they drew an arrow on my knee so that they'd know which one to shave and cut.

This is why I haven't written anything today. When I said that in my mind, I thought, "Yeah! Comedy gold!" My brain is dull.

Hope you feel better soon. Will you have to do PT?

Self guided PT!

They've come a long way with arthroscopic technology! From the moment they knocked me out till the time the doc was in the waiting room showing Katie the pictures, less than an hour had passed. I'm already walking with a cane, albeit short distances.

I've made a pillow fort in the bed, and I'm probably going to have a rough night. I took a nap this afternoon and thanks to Vicodin, I was able to get some sleep, but every time I move I have to rebuild my fort. Katie's in the guest room, and I'm about to sign off. I'm starting to feel silly. My knee doesn't hurt though, so I've got that going for me.

Today I made it to the living room and made myself breakfast without needing my cane. I also finally got my first full night's sleep since coming home from Iceland.

I'm still a bit spacy though, and after sitting here in the living room for just under an hour, I think I'm ready to move back to the pillow fort I've constructed in our bedroom. I tried to do some writing yesterday but all that came out was jibberish. This afternoon should be better.
