Twister now has the rods out of her back that were holding her vertebrate solid while they healed! I assume she will soon have lots of flexibility when she bends over.

She returned to Erie to have the procedure and Mr. Magnum and I were thrilled to have her spend almost two weeks with us while she made appointments and saw doctors in Erie to make that happen.

^^^^ Thanks! :-D

My neurosurgeon did not have to add short rods back into my back because it had healed perfectly and was very sturdy when he manipulated it while he was in there. Thank god, because I would not want to go through all this pain again!

The incisions are healing up my back and the staples will come out on Wed, Sept. 12th. I assume that the muscle spasms will pass, probably in a couple of days time (I hope!) Next up, is seeing about getting this IVC filter removed from my Cardiologist in a few weeks time back in Erie. I am pushing that magical 16-month mark so who knows if he will be able to remove it or not. If not, I will be on Coumadin for the rest of my life. This should be all the major follow-up surgeries stemming from my car accident unless my ankle collapses on me (which could be now or never). :smt117

Happy healing vibes being sent from Maine, too!

Leave it to me to have surgery scheduled in the middle of a tropical storm. Here's hoping a gust of wind doesn't hit just at the time the surgeon is about to stick the wire in my jugular vein. :smt090

Ugh, I didn't even think about that Scott! I am just hoping my anesthesiologist doesn't come in dressed like a vampire.

Priscilla had the IVC filter removed from her vein successfully a short time ago. I am still waiting for her to come back to the room. It came out after a short tug and no surgeon in a vampire outfit! Hopefully this is the end of her accident related surgeries.

Thanks for your continued good vibes. Once again support has helped us through.

So....given the lack of updates......we can assume she gets to keep her foot?

I went down to see an ankle specialist in NYC at the end of May and he told me my ankle is in no danger of collapsing because the talus bone is only dead in a few places. He told me it may collapse tomorrow or it may never collapse and if/when it does I can simply have an ankle fusion. So no amputation needed. He told me he does want me to use the cane to walk for 2 years from the date of my accident so only another 8 months or so to go. I have been practicing taking steps without it. He also told me I can eventually get rid of the brace (an AFO) and just use a drugstore brace to prevent foot drop.

So all around good news, from the hardware in my back is gone to no amputation to my IVC filter is gone! Now my Urolgist wants to get my bladder working again and I have a whole bunch of tests I will need to go through before I make a decision on that.
